NBA Playoffs 2007 – Week 1.5 Analysis

hopefully i’m not the only one sidetracked by the NBA playoffs this year, but lately thats exactly what i’ve been.. Heat (Shaq/Wade/Payton/Mourning

/Riley?!) going out without a fight was a surprise, but watching the Warriors dismantle the Mavs (thus far) and watching the Suns be the Suns more or less evens it out.. i always knew he could ball, but Baron Davis 2007-edition is ridiculous.. Kobe still is and always will be the one everyone loves to hate, but can’t really help but respect.. Bynum is showing his potential , though mostly on defense.. Stephen Jackson reminds me of Antawn Jamison, and thats both a compliment and not a compliment at the same time.. Jackson fits better on the Warriors than he ever did in Indiana, though.. Don Nelson is preeeeeeeetty old, but he’s done a great job – again..jus a shame Eddie Jones didn’t get the ring he deserves, and might never have another chance again as his stellar career comes to an end..

oh well, rest of the Playoffs should be pretty interesting.. even in Phoenix’s run alone.. i hope Nash gets a ring (as well as the 3rd MVP award he deserves), as he isn’t getting any younger.. Shawn Marion would be on my All-NBA squad with all of his athleticism and intangibles, even with his stupid-lookin shotput-form jumpshot.. and i just hope Stoudemire stays healthy the rest of his career and transfers his aggression to the defensive end as well – if so, we’re in for something pretty special.. a smoother Shawn Kemp playing to his fullest potential on offense + Dennis Rodman on defense anyone? Diaw isn’t back to form yet, but if he ever gets back there Phoenix will be unstoppable.. Barbosa looks funny as hell running up and down the floor, but once he gets to that awkward-looking jumpshot or floater, you’re done.. plus, his attitude and love for the game can only be matched by that of his mentor’s, Steve Nash.. they rarely play Jalen Rose, but i figure he can’t be any worse than James Jones?! not that anyone in his right mind would question D’Antoni – this guy has steam coming out of his ears and nose everytime the Suns have a defensive lapse, and yet he continually gets criticized for being an offense-only coach.. go figure.

PS. i hope nobody reading this actually thought the Raptors would go as far as ANY of the stupid local/Canadian media characters had predicted simply from their regular season record improvement.. Bargnani, Parker & the TJ Ford/Jose Calderon point tandem offer us a bright core to build around for the future though.. NOTE: i didn’t leave a certain player out accidentally – he should be traded for a more conventional big with more adept passing skills while everyone else is ooh-ing and aah-ing at his potential still.. or maybe he’ll grow into his frame in 2-3 yrs and end up panning out to be the POWER forward he’s supposed to be and actually lead this team somewhere then? also note, i’m not trying to be an asshole, and i’d love for him to prove me wrong.

PPS. don’t be too surprised if someday i end up working for the NBA in some form or other.. simply coz i like basketball as much as i do music.. next lens i buy will be a telephoto and i’ll get crackin on sports photography.. or at least i’ll try haha..

PPPS. the contrast in the two’s facial expressions is a bit amusing =)
